POURTLANDIA PROJECT #2
“ZEST FOR ART”
JOHNS MARKETPLACE brings together THE PORTLAND ART MUSEUM + GIGANTIC BREWING in collaboration to benefit the Portland Art Museum Foundation.
EDITION #2: Portland Art Museum / Gigantic Brewing / Portland Art Museum Foundation
What happens when a neighborhood marketplace, a legendary brewery, a local artist, and one of Portland's most treasured cultural institutions decide to create something together?
That question sits at the heart of the Pourtlandia Project.
Created to celebrate the people, places, and passions that make Portland extraordinary, Pourtlandia exists to build bridges between communities that might not otherwise cross paths. Music lovers discovering local nonprofits. Beer enthusiasts connecting with artists. Curious people finding new reasons to explore the city they call home.
For the second edition of the project, we are honored to partner with the Portland Art Museum, Gigantic Brewing, and Portland artist Amy Ruppel to create Zest For Art, a bright and refreshing Lemon Lager inspired by the Museum's belief that everyone is an artist.
The beer itself is only part of the story.
Amy Ruppel designed a one-of-a-kind label featuring a lemon mosaic composed from details of thirteen works and locations found throughout the Portland Art Museum's collection and campus. Individually, they are distinct works of creativity. Together, they form something entirely new—a symbol of what can happen when different voices, perspectives, and disciplines come together in pursuit of a common idea.
In much the same way, Zest For Art brings together the artistry of brewing, visual art, community gathering, and curiosity.
Because great cities are built on more than buildings and businesses. They are built by artists, makers, dreamers, and neighbors willing to share what they love with one another.
That's the spirit of The Pourtlandia Project.
POURTLANDIA PROJECT #1
“DEEP CUTS”
JOHNS MARKETPLACE brings MUSIC MILLENIUM + BAERLIC BREWING for Record Store Day a collaboration to benefit The Oregon Museum of Rock & Roll.
EDITION #1: Music Millenium / Baerlic Brewing / Oregon Music Hall of Fame
Some collaborations just make sense. Others feel like they’ve been waiting to happen for decades.
Deep Cuts is both.
Born out of our Pourtlandia Project - a mission to reconnect the creative heartbeat of this city - this release brings together the crate-diggers at Music Millennium, the craft obsessives at Baerlic, and our own never-ending pursuit of flavor, story, and discovery. Timed for Record Store Day 2026, this beer is our love letter to the tracks you don’t always hear first - but never forget once you do.
We built Deep Cuts like a perfectly curated record bin. The base lays down clean and crisp - American 2-row and Pilsner malts forming a bright, balanced backbone. Then the hops come in like layered instrumentation: Centennial and Simcoe bring structure and lift, while a special late-addition of Crosby’s Deep Cut Cascade turns the dial toward something deeper, more expressive.
What hits your palate is a composition of orange zest and grapefruit up front, followed by waves of peach and soft tropical fruit, finishing with a whisper of pine and just enough malt to remind you you’re still in the Northwest.
That Deep Cut Cascade matters. Grown just down the road in Woodburn by Crosby Hop Farm, these hops are left on the bine longer - pushed past the typical harvest window - to develop amplified citrus and stone fruit character. It’s a small decision with a big payoff. Like letting the needle ride just a little longer into the groove.
At 6% ABV, Deep Cuts is as approachable as it is intentional - a beer built for flipping records, chasing flavors, and finding those unexpected moments that stick with you.
Because whether it’s music or beer, the real magic isn’t always in the hits
Sometimes, it’s in the deep cuts.
AVAILABLE ON SATURDAY APRIL 18TH AT JOHNS, MUSIC MILLENIUM AND BAERLIC BREWERY!
